About

Brian's portrait

I lead research and accessibility within a user-centred design function in financial services, spanning wealth, retirement, and insurance.

Over 14+ years I’ve worked across user-centred design helping organisations understand who their users are, how they think, and how they make decisions and act. My work spans product discovery, complex transformation, iterative delivery, and regulated environments where evidence must withstand scrutiny.

I’ve built research and accessibility practices from scratch, led established teams, and driven design-initiated programmes operating at organisational scale. I focus on turning research into a capability — embedding it into governance, delivery, and risk processes so it meaningfully shapes outcomes.

At the same time, I’m drawn to exploratory and experimental work: testing new methods, interrogating emerging technologies, and examining how AI and other socio-technical systems reshape behaviour, trust, and decision-making.

Alongside industry practice, I collaborate with academia and standards bodies, contributing to inclusive data visualisation research, MSc HCID curriculum development, and to WCAG 3 (Silver Task Force) discussions on supporting people with complex communication needs.
